My name is Don Paul, I have been doing nothing but pet identification tags since 1975. The company I co-owned, D & D Enterprises, makers of E-Z Read Pet I.D. Tags, was the first company to ever manufacture plastic Pet ID Tags.
I sold my interest in E-Z Read Pet Tags in 1991 and for eight years I was constrained from making pet i.d. tags by a “non-competition agreement.” That agreement terminated in 1998.
In the year 1999 I once again took up doing what I do best, protecting pets and their families from heart breaking separation. Most of us have lost, or at least been separated from, a beloved pet at some point in our life. The pain and anxiety of this is terrible, if I can help prevent that pain… what better job could a person have?
I learned early on that it was IMPOSSIBLE to make a traditional hanging pet id tag that would never wear out. All tags that depend on rings or hooks to secure them are subject to friction and thus doomed to fail in time. The ring or hook will wear out, the hole in the tag will wear through, or the text on the tag will be erased as the tag rubs against other tags or collar hardware.
How long a traditional hanging tag will last depends in large on what material the tag is made of and how active the pet is. If your pet’s tag has fallen off its collar, or the text on the tag is no longer legible, and your pet goes missing you may never see your beloved pet again. Traditional hanging tags can cost you your pet.
I realized early on that many of my customers expected their pet’s id tag to last forever. Impossible since they are all subject to friction. So, what to do? Invent a pet id tag that was not subject to friction, or at least very little friction. So in 1998 I developed CollarTags™.
Note: Since I came up with the collar tag concept many lower quality copies have been developed by my competitors. If it was not made in our shop it is not a true CollarTag™. I have already received emails from people who bought one of these “copy-cat” so called collar tags. What do they say, “It was cheaply made and only lasted a few months.” Also: Our competitor’s tag blanks are made off shore. All ingredients of our CollarTags™ are produced by companies within the United States. If our tags seem a little more expensive, there is that—and the fact that the metal we use to produce our CollarTags™ is of a much higher quality.
My CollarTags™ are made of .060 thick non-magnetic stainless steal, the text is deeply engraved into this very hard metal with a diamond under high pressure. Our engraving machines have been custom made for the purpose, no one else has them.
I have been making CollarTags™ for over 20 years now, I guarantee them to last the life of the pet they are purchased for and they do. I have yet to see one of my CollarTags™ I could not read every letter on. As an aside, a competitor called me on the phone and scolded me, “You hurting all of us [meaning all pet id companies] by making tags that last too long.” ? That’s my job.
If your pet goes missing and it has one of my CollarTags™ on its collar you will be able to rest assured its finder will be able to contact you, and that is what pet id tags are all about—there is no other purpose for them. CollarTags™, the last pet id tag you will have to buy for your pet unless you need to update the information on your pet’s tag, GUARANTEED.
